The
Artist:
After painting traditional landscapes for many years, Marti Kirkpatrick
took a four-year time out from producing art, remaining,
however, very active in the local art world as President of the League
of Reston Artists (199799).
When she came back to the studio, it was with a renewed interest,
a more impressionistic approach, and an abstract vision.
"I am excited by color and light. My art is often an abstract,
sensory reaction to the world of nature. Other times I just play
with textures and color, and the pictures seem to paint themselves
as though I were just an observer of an ever changing mood.
The more I paint, the more I need to paint. My art pulls me in
many different directions and I am constantly trying new ideas and
styles. Usually I have a definite idea of what I want to paint;
however, sometimes my finished work is just a happy accident! I
love painting and I hope my art brings some enjoyment to others."
Mrs. Kirkpatrick paints in oil. She also does hand pressed block
prints and mixed media landscapes and nudes. Her art is increasingly
being sought by private collectors, and has been juried into many
exhibitions, receiving multiple awards.
