The Boards of Directors of the Council for the Arts of Herndon (CAH) and the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts (HFCA) are pleased to announce that they have officially joined together as a new organization called Arts Herndon.
Discussions between our two organizations concerning the plan to merge have been taking place over the last two years. We have moved forward into the New Year with a new name, a new board, and exciting new opportunities. Arts Herndon is now the official arts organization of the town of Herndon.
The newly elected board, consisting of members from both previous organizations, include:
Michael O’Reilly, President; Pat Macintyre, Vice President; Sharon Nachman, Treasurer; Peggy O’Reilly, Secretary; Board members Harlon Reece (Past president of Council for the Arts of Herndon and the Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts), Cesar del Aguila, and Laura Readyoff (past Secretary to the Board of the Council for the Arts of Herndon.)
Over the past thirty years, the CAH has awarded over $120,000 in scholarships, as well as educational opportunities and professional development programs to students and artists in Fairfax County. The CAH has commissioned public works of art, conducted literacy programs, and increased the visibility of the visual and performing arts in our area. CAH’s work with at-risk communities have helped bring the arts within the reach of the entire Herndon community.
Herndon Foundation for the Cultural Arts has served as a cultural hub for the town. They have hosted continuous exhibits at ArtSpace, funded arts programming throughout the Greater Herndon area, and have conducted well-received performing arts programs such as 2015’s Dominion Notes Concert Series. Their several annual events blend together the arts and society in new and innovative ways.
The work of both organizations has been critical to establishing Herndon as a leader for the advancement of the arts within Fairfax County. The new Arts Herndon will uphold these programs and traditions, while opening the doors for new and exciting opportunities. We now have the staff and resources to become an even stronger presence in our community.
