URGENT: The LRA Needs Your Involvement and Meeting Announcement

ANNOUNCING the next League of Reston Artists (LRA) General Membership Meeting.  To be held 7pm, February 8, 2011 at the Lake Anne Reston Community Center.  11400 Washington Plaza West, Reston, VA 20190, (703) 471-6374.  More information to follow.
We hope you and your family are starting off the new year with health, happiness and creativity.  We're also hoping you have some time to volunteer and serve our great arts organization!
The majority of the LRA board has been serving for more than 2 years and it's time for a change.  If we don't find a new board for the organization, LRA will possibly be dissolved.  We don't want to lose an organization that has been in the community for 40 years.  We need members to step up in all areas and take over responsibilities.  The RPS Co-President, LRA Treasurer and Webmaster have agreed to serve until the next election to promote continuity in the organization.  
At the bottom of this announcement you will find a short description of each available board position.  All positions may be shared and members may choose to serve as co-chairs instead of taking full responsibility for any one position.  Positions may require a time commitment of 5-40 hours per month.  Existing board members have already committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the new board, including providing temporary support, access to all LRA tools or accounts and sharing of important information.

League of Reston Artists (LRA) Mission:
Providing educational opportunities for students through scholarships; Supporting artists of all levels and skills through mentoring; Arranging exhibitions for artists including community and corporate venues; Scheduling workshops and critique groups in photography, artistic techniques and marketing; and obtaining a permanent gallery/meeting/classroom space for the organization.
Co-President or Vice President: Coordinates with Co-President or President to preside at all board meetings and see that the decisions of the Board are carried out. Represents LRA as called upon to do so.  Co-ordinates and oversees each exhibit and committee.  Writes and distributes communications to the membership in coordination with the Exhibits, Membership and Volunteer Chairs.
Membership Chair: Generally supports LRA members.  Welcomes new members and shares opportunities to get involved in LRA.  Communicates with members via email to answer questions, provide resources or advice.  Coordinates with the President and Exhibits Chair to enable members to take full advantage of what LRA has to offer.  Encourages volunteerism and gets members involved in exhibits, meetings or events.  Manages the membership list in coordination with the Treasurer (who collects payments). 
Exhibits Chair: Coordinates and manages regular LRA exhibitions, including tracking entry applications, reaching out to members and exhibit advertising.  Works with the Volunteer Chair to ensure exhibit volunteer needs are met.  Seeks new venues for exhibits and manages relations with each exhibit location manager.
Volunteer Coordinator: Recruits, trains and supports member volunteers in managing various events and exhibits for LRA.
Secretary: Responsible for communication with Board members.

Planning & Expansion Chair: Assists in planning existing programs and exhibits and brainstorms new ideas and ways to expand the organization through events and activities.  Raises funds for various LRA initiatives.
