Tuesday Nov.17, 2015    7-8:30 pm

Reston Community Center, Lake Anne

A Talk and Demo presented by Charlene Fuhrman-Schulz

Sponsored by the League of Reston Artists

Charlene will demonstrate a more abstract technique of Oriental painting called “PoMo” or “Splashing Ink”.  This technique involves working wet on wet, throwing or pouring watercolor on a shikishi board (a Japanese gold board) and then finishing the painting through the use of traditional brushwork.  The technique can also be used on rice paper, canvas or water color paper.”

The study of Chinese Brush painting began for Charlene in 1989, when she took her first class at the Smithsonian. What started as an interest in watercolor and ink painting became an all consuming passion - a life-time vocation. In 1989 she began studying with Painting Master I-Hsiung Ju (1923-2012). She traveled with him to China in 1993, 2001, 2004 and again in 2006 followed by a trip to Taiwan in 2007. There, she and her teacher visited many scenic areas and gardens throughout both China and Taiwan and experienced the fantastic Chinese landscapes seen in paintings firsthand.
