posted Mar 15, 2016, 7:15 AM by League of Reston Artists Webmaster

The City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts invites artists and artist teams living and/or working in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia to submit proposals for participation in a Community Supported Art initiative. Built upon the traditional Community Supported Agriculture model that provides opportunities for consumers to buy seasonal food directly from local farmers, Community Supported Arts (CSA) will provide a unique way for collectors to acquire original art from regional artists.

Six artists or artist teams will be selected to participate in the 2016 CSA. Each artist will be required to create 50 pieces of original art for the program. All visual arts mediums will be considered, including, but not limited to, ceramics, textiles, photography, printing/letterpress, metal work, carved/turned wood, glass, paper arts, painting, etc. All artwork must be original, handcrafted by the artist. No giclees will be accepted.

Application DeadlineSunday, April 3, 11:59 p.m. (MST)

UUCR (Universalist Unitarian Church of Reston)

The church has 3 fantastic walls which hold already existing hardware and professional lighting for the artist.  All work must be properly framed w/ wire on the back.  Tags, prices typed professionally. They request the artist do their own advertising, press release, invitations, and hold an opening (possibility for 1st & 4th Sundays during the 2nd hour of service gives the reception the congregation crowd in addition to the artists advertised guests).  They have provided music in the past for artist receptions.   Current requirements are no obvious nudes, that is if nudes are not explicit, or an obvious display of accentuating body parts which children might be embarrassed by, it can be exhibited.  The committee requests 5-10 images to approve exhibition, which then must represent the art displayed.  Artist must hang and take down display on specific dates and times and in a timely manner. A 20% commission fee goes to the church for all sales which can be  considered a tax relief for the artist.

The space can accommodate roughly 20-30 works of art, and there is one wall which will soon be added which can accommodate a large scale art work.
