Vienna Art Center
115 Pleasant St., NW
Vienna, VA 22180
August 26 – September 27
Winning artworks will be selected by Vienna Town Leaders. Enjoy light refreshments and meet the artists at an Awards Reception on Saturday, September 13, 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Free and open to the public.
The LRA will be holding an exhibition at the Ernst Cultural Center, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale VA 22003. This is open to photographers, digital artists and painters. The exhibition will be from Saturday, September 6 until Saturday, October 25. There will be a reception on Saturday, October 4 from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m during which awards will be presented by our judge - Trudi C. Van Dyke. Charlene Fuhrman-Schulz, LRA Treasurer, will be the Exhibition Coordinator for this show.
This location has great gallery wall space on two levels and generates a great deal of traffic due to performing arts that are staged on a regular basis in the same building. Our web site is open for registration and the link is http://www.leagueofrestonartists.org/shows/2014sep-ernst-center
Many members have been asking about this venue and I expect we will have a great number of people signing up so I would highly recommend that you register early. Two things to keep in mind for this show, we have reduced the entry fee for LRA members to $20 for 3 pieces of your work. We are also allowing larger pieces for this show with the maximum size of any work, including the frame, is 48 inches horizontally and 60 inches vertically.
Awards will be provided and the judge will be Trudi C. Van Dyke. Trudi is an independent curator and fine arts consultant who specializes in exhibitions of fiber and fine craft. She curates arts exhibitions nationally and internationally. She was formerly director of the Torpedo Factory Arts Center (Alexandria, VA) and the Ellipse Art Center (Arlington, VA). She travels around the country as a festival judge and conference speaker on the business of art and the adaptive reuse of facilities.
In addition, the Ernst Center will also be producing 2 large prints about LRA's Exhibition, and several hundred postcards (designed by our own Dawn Murphy) that will be provided to all those who sign up for this exhibition for further distribution to your friends, family and co-workers.
This should be one of the highlights of our exhibitions and expand LRA's scope and reputation for producing some great works of art.
I hope that you will be a part of this year’s Art Mirrors Culture exhibit in the Jo Ann Rose Gallery and 3D Gallery at RCC Lake Anne during September. This exhibit that honors the multi-faceted cultural heritage of our community encourages artists of all ages and backgrounds to take part. In the Jo Ann Rose Gallery, all forms of art that can be hung on a wall are welcome. In the 3D Gallery, two 30-foot walls of glass cases are waiting to be filled with ceramic, sculpture, mosaic, stained glass and other three-dimensional pieces. The 3D part of the Art Mirrors Culture exhibit will go until the November 21.
There are two Call for Entries forms, one for 2-dimensional art to be displayed in the Jo Ann Rose Gallery and another for 3-dimensional art for the 3D Gallery. They can be downloaded from on our website at http://restoncommunitycenter.com/arts_exhibits.shtml or let me know and I will email one or both to you. The return date for the FORMS ONLY is Sunday, August 24 by 7:00 p.m.
If you are not sure of the names of pieces, that is fine – that information can be added when you drop off your work during either Friday, August 29, or Saturday, August 30. There is no Sunday drop off for this exhibit. There is a $2 per work hanging fee in the Jo Ann Rose Gallery for up to two pieces per person and a $1 fee per work for up to 10 pieces in the 3D Gallery.
Since this exhibit will help celebrate the Multicultural Festival on Saturday, September 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., please include a few words (up to 50) that describe how your piece(s) mirror your culture. Culture can be interpreted in a variety of ways, but a strong visual connection with your cultural heritage is encouraged in your work and words.
Please pass this information along to artists that you know of any age. If the drop-off days do not work for you, let me know and we can arrange another time for you to bring your work.
Please carefully review the information on the Call for Entry forms and let me know if you have any questions.
