Rebuilding Together Alexandria is a non-profit organization serving low-income homeowners in the City of Alexandria. We are sponsoring a t-shirt design contest as part of our 25th anniversary celebration. Our largest yearly event is National Rebuilding Day on the last Saturday in April, when about 1,000 volunteers provide free home repairs to around 50 homeowners. The winner of the contest will receive a prize and have their artwork displayed on the volunteer’s shirts and our website (http://rebuildingtogetheralex.org/). Deadline is next Wednesday evening.

Contest for art project!!! We were able to get permission to put an art project on the beautiful median at Lee Hwy and N Monroe St. It's a rare occasion. It's a perfect spot for a sculpture or other creative project. The site is a lovely cherry tree filled median with plenty of space for the art. It will be across from a soon to be completed 5-story condo, near (2) 4-story condos, in a highly visible walking area by Safeway and small retail shops. Hundreds of pedestrians and thousands of drivers will see the art every day. The median divides 2 wonderful small town neighborhoods, Cherrydale and Maywood, filled with historic homes and great diversity (architecturally speaking as well as population).
PLUS the top 5 or 6 submissions will be posted for citizens to review, which is more wonderful advertising FREE!
The art will be permanent. It can not be higher than 3 ft but it can be 10 feet wide, perhaps wider. The deadline is 2/28/12. The winner gets $17,000 for the project in 3 installments, and lots of good publicity.
Application is easy. It's a 1 page application, a drawing, and then showing on a diagram where to place it. Couldn't be easier. If awarded, the project should be installed end of August. Glad to talk about it. Find the application on www.Cherrydale.net
