The Chesapeake Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is hosting its second annual " U.O.U. Photography Contest"
leading up to National Travel & Tourism Week May 4-12. This contest
encourages local residents and visitors to Chesapeake to snap a photo
of a favorite place or activity in Chesapeake where they can go to relax
or enjoy the city.
League of Reston Artists might be
interested in participating in this contest. It's simple and a great way
for participants to see Chesapeake through a tourist's eyes and
rediscover activities or places in the city that they
love. All participants have to do is snap a photo with the letters
"U.O.U." included in the photo and then submit the photo to entries@visitchesapeake.com. Local experts familiar with the city will judge the
contest photos and the top five winners will receive Visa gift cards ranging from $75-$350.
"U.O.U." is an idea developed by the Chesapeake CVB as a play on
the phrase "I.O.U." The term "U.O.U." encourages audiences to reward
themselves and escape from their daily routine with a trip to Chesapeake
to hike one of the many trails, paddle down the
waterways or simply eat at a local restaurant or spend time with family
at a nearby park.

Additional ANNOUNCEMENT from GLOBAL VERNISSAGE
Even the most successful artists have limits when it comes to reaching a wide audience through gallery shows. Galleries
exist as little worlds of their own which attract a certain type of
people, typically those who are educated in the arts or of a higher
social class. While gallery exhibitions are important for building up a
reputation and making sales, relying solely on gallery shows can be very
limiting to emerging artists. Too often, artists leave their works in
storage where no one can see them while they apply for another show or
deal with another rejection letter. Read more…
