INFORMATION
2012 Annual Meeting Recap

Special thanks to all the LRA members who made it out for the annual meeting on February 11, 2012. It’s nice to see so many proactive, creative people in the same space and I’m glad to see so many people care about shaping the organization.

During that meeting, we were able to accomplish several things:

  • We filled the Scholarship Committee Chair and one Member position
  • We have a volunteer for the Fundraising Committee
  • We have a volunteer to assist with the website
  • We established a checklist for exhibits and brainstormed show title and theme ideas
  • We discussed and brainstormed ideas to improve the membership experience and annual renewal process (coming in a couple weeks!)
We met at the Reston Chamber building, which was a special treat since we were able to enjoy LRA artwork in the large conference room while we met. As we continue to get organized, we hope more of our fellow artists will come out in person to support community art and artists.
Click here to view the LRA Annual Schedule for this year.  Events that are not linked to entry pages still have a few details to sort out.

In our mission statement, we say we schedule workshops and critique groups to help our artists develop deeper skills and learn from others. New members tend to ask about these opportunities - which, unfortunately, are non-existent because we don’t have a volunteer to research and coordinate events for our members. I would love for us to become a strong community of people who share their skills and take advantage of the connections a group like this can bring, but we need someone behind-the-scenes to make it happen!

We still have several open positions! We still need key volunteers! This organization has existed in Reston for more than 40 years and is an institution, not only for local artists but the community at large. Without the time and dedication of our members, we will be unable to thrive and fulfill the vision and mission we are here to support. Volunteer today to assist with Membership or Fundraising and make a difference in the community!

Special thanks to the committed volunteers who put time in another year to keep LRA alive in 2012.  I look forward to building LRA along with you and I hope together we can share what we learn together with even more volunteers who will become the future of LRA.

2012 Election

Because the election cycle has been irregular for a number of years, all Officer positions are open for nomination and subject to vote. Megan Nehr is an automatic nominee for President as she has been acting in that position since February 2011. Karin Burton is an automatic nominee for Treasurer as she has been acting in that position since December 2011.  Keith Bridges was the only nominee for the Vice-President position.  The Secretary position still needs to be filled.  The online voting link below will ask you to confirm each of these positions (and nominate an alternative if desired).

While we will have a vote for the Officer positions, Committee positions are on a volunteer basis and anyone willing to participate is welcome to assist as a committee member. If you’d like to help, we have something for you to do!  See the table above for open positions and please note, more than one volunteer may assist with most of the positions listed.  Each of the committees will need more volunteers to help them get things done, so smaller jobs will be posted as things are planned.  If we do fill all the positions, we can achieve so much more than has been possible before. Please join us and make LRA a better organization!

The nomination period was from January 21 - February 11, 2012.

Voting is open from February 24 – March 2.
